My America

Some new music to check: Bad American. Angry hardcore with an early 80s slant. I've heard a lot of different band names thrown around as far as the sound and all are pretty accurate, but you can read those on the band pages below . The other info that gets thrown around is the whole ex-members deal. Members of Weston, Carpenter Ant and Rancor (oh and Grow too). Forget what those bands sound like though and just know that if you dig those bands, you're getting something brand new and just as awesome. I was way into Fresh Meat (a former project), but this is faster and waaay more pissed.

I haven't gotten home to catch them yet, but they're part of a group of Valley bands that I am psyched on seeing or seeing again (B.A., Secret Cutter, Unlearn). I included the demo and the 7 inch, both of which are sold out, or are close to being sold out. The vinyl and demo are worth tracking down, even if they aren't repressed. Get into it and support.

Record Shop

I was watching the movie "Rockers" over the weekend. Besides having an amazing soundtrack, its actually a pretty entertaining film. If you know anything about the movie, you know that the lead character, Horsemouth, takes a job in the record distribution business at the start. After buying his motorcycle he can be seen driving from record shop to record shop pushing 200 copies of the "45" that he picked up from the plant.

I grabbed this picture of Horsemouth just outside one of the local record shops. How great would it be to be able to run a viable business out of a place like that? I wonder if they have a copy of the "Age of Quarrel" lp for me?

Young Pa

This show was one of the better, bigger Valley shows I had been to. While Lupo's isn't exactly the picture of DIY, Weston had grown to a point where they needed some size to play. Despite the rock club vibe, there was minimal time between bands it was a quickly moving show for five bands being on the bill. Grieving Eucalytus were a band that, to me, never really got the recognition they deserved. It seemed like they were always viewed as up and coming and then things kind of fizzled out after the LP on Foe. I still listen to their single that Self Starter put out.
